Copyright and Legalities

Hey everyone,

I'm in the process now of developing an application, its an idea I've had for a few years now but not ever got round to actually developing it, until now.

There is a program already out there that does a similar thing, but not exactly the same; mine has features this doesnt.

My concern is will I be in breach of any copyright/legal side of things? .. will it end up like a scene out of "The Social Network"?

It is not copying its name in anyway its just a program that is similar to it, much in the same way that Facebook is similar to MySpace or that Microsoft Word is similar to Star Office, Notepad to Notepad Pro ect ..... I think it shoudl be fine but really wanted to know if there is anyone on here that may have a legal back ground or even an understanding as a lawyer is expensive here.

Im currently in the UK and obide by UK law; Scotland.

You would only have an issue if you breached a patent or actually used someone else's code. Writing your own code to do the same thing is not an issue.
