Hardware selection for developing

Hi there
I nead some tips from you VB guys

I'm in the situation to buy a new computer and want to know what kind of hardware that will give the best performance. Shoud I go for CoreDuo? Will Visual Studio use it? Maybe in the future?

For a new development computer today I would aim at .Net 3.0 and next VS version "Orcas", where Vista OS recommandations would probably be best fit.
